Secondly, the poster above is correct regarding screen size and most experts say it has to be above 40" and even that is cutting it close.
Thirdly, NOTHING is broadcast in 1080p, nor will it be any time soon if ever, other than Blu-ray or HD DVD so unless you have one of them you will not see much if any difference in picture quality.
People watching regular TV or Sat on a 1080p are still watching it in 720p or a bogus upscaled 1080p.

So if you are planning on buying another tv in the next 1-2 years go with the 720p for now.

1080p is the highest quality tv so I would suggest buying a 1080p over a 720p because the 720p is already out dated<br

The bigger the screen, the more noticeable. A reasonable cutoff size is about 50" ... bigger, and you'll notice the 1080p more. Smaller you won't notice it as much, especially at viewing distance.
If you watch a lot of std. def. broadcasts and/or std. DVDs, the diff. won't be as great either. If you have 1080p sources like BluRay discs, you'll see more difference.

Depends on how big the screen is and what your sources are. ( not to mention the fact that the samsung 650 series cost less than an xbr4 but has specs close to an xbr5). Buy a plasma tv if your planning on getting one that is "40" or larger, if not buy an lcd.

Carlton W doesn’t appear to have any clue what he is talking about. and jacob shouldn’t have wasted money on getting an xbr5 it cost much more than the xbr4 but isn’t much better. What you put into it is what you get out. A 1080P DVD may do upconverting meaning that it can produce a better picture than what is put into it via interpolation but there aren't any TVs that I know of that do this. On the other hand, there are TV stations that do upconverting of 480i content to 720P or 1080i such as TNT HD so that you get the benefit of viewing a program in HDTV format that was originally shot in analog.

1080P TVs don’t do upconverting. It has to do with the difference in the display technology. Try looking at the Panasonic TH-42PZ80U. Also, 720p HDTVs definitely look better with SD programming than any 1080p HDTVs. I have seen this in side-by-side comparisons time and again.
Additional Details: All HDTVs MUST & DO up-convert a SD program (480i) or a 720p HD program to its native resolution (1080p). If it did not it would be useless since over 90% of the digital broadcasts are NOT1080i and NO one broadcasts 1080p!!!!!!!!!

In general, plasma HDTVs tend to handle SD programming better than the LCDs.
