Should I buy a MAC or a Dell Studio XPS (Intel i7) PC for full HD 1080p (24mbps) video editing? There appears to be very confusing data on the web. What would you do, a i7 PC or a MAC?

I have a custom built PC, but it’s very old and can’t even play 720p videos. What hardware do I need to change in it so I can play full 1080p movies on my PC? Please recommend some types/model names of the parts I need to buy. I already have a full HD monitor.

I have seen home theatre receivers and DVD players with video upscaling,and it says that it can upscale any input to 1080p. Are they really able to upscale my standard DVD movie to 1080p? After upscaling DVD movie,will it be close looking to Blu-Ray HD movie?

Ex. I’m on newegg searching for a video card and I look at their list of specifications for that card. How will I know a certain card outputs 1080p?

I was over my friends house, took my ps3 over and he had a 1080p tv, I changed the video settings to automatic and it switched to 1080p. I get home hook up my ps3 and no video shows. Do I have to go back to his 1080 tv and change the settings to custom/ 1080i?
